ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management System

ISO 22000:2018 is a new standard designed to ensure safe food supply worldwide.

The standard identifies situations that may pose a danger to food safety and stipulates the following obligations for them:

Creation of a HACCP System in accordance with the principles of Codex Alimentarius,
Establishment of a management system,
Good manufacturing practices (Pre-requisite programs)
Interactive communication within the supply chain.

The requirements are aimed to be common from the farmer in the field to the transport and storage operators, from retailers and restaurants to their suppliers (including Machinery and packaging manufacturers).

Since the standard has such a wide coverage, regardless of size and complexity, it has a generic structure.

Companies wishing to implement this standard should first of all have defined the risks for all their processes by establishing a HACCP system, the principles of which have been determined by Codex Alimentarius.They should also be supported by valid Good Production Practices, legal requirements for the sector, if any, and a documented management system (as in ISO 9001). At the same time, the ISO/TS 22004 Guideline Standard has been prepared for ISO 22000.
