The conditions of supply of products outside the scope of CE to the market and the conditions of use of all products in buildings, regardless of whether they bear the CE mark or not, are determined by the Regulation on the Criteria to which Building Materials will be Subject (Regulation G). The regulation was published in the Official Gazette dated 26.06.2009 and numbered 27270 and will be compulsorily implemented on 01.07.2010. With this Communique, in addition to the CE mark, it is envisaged to attach the G mark to the products left in the void, which symbolizes that they are safe products and will be used nationally. Accordingly, it is made mandatory to attach either CE or G marks to the products to be used in construction works.

What is the G Sign?

The G Mark is a mandatory mark for the market supply of building materials that are not subject to CE in our country and is used by attaching to the material, a label attached to the material, the packaging of the material or commercial documents belonging to the material.

What is the Legislation On G?

The Regulation on the Criteria to be Applied to Building Materials regulating the provisions related to the G Sign (in short, the Regulation on the G Sign) was published by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and Communal Services in the Official Gazette dated 26.06.2009 and numbered 27270. In addition, the Communiqué on the Implementation of Conformity Assessment Systems in Accordance with the Regulation on the Criteria to which Building Materials that determine the application principles of this Regulation will be Subject (in short, the Communiqué on the Implementation of G) was published in the Official Gazette dated 06.02.2010 and numbered 27485.

The said Regulation and Communiqué have been prepared on the basis of the Framework Law No. 4703 and the Decree No. 180 on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and Communal Services, which has the Force of Law.

For Which Materials Is the G Mark Mandatory?

The building materials subject to the regulation are defined as products that are permanently used in construction works involving buildings and other civil engineering works and are not subject to CE. Ready-mixed concrete and rebar (concrete steel bars) come to the fore as the most important among the hundreds of materials included in this definition.

Why Can the G Mark Be Attached to the Product?

The performance values of the product to be declared with the G Mark are confirmed by evaluating its conformity according to the national standard to which it is subject (or, in the absence of a standard, a national technical approval). The evaluation to be carried out according to the national standard is carried out by the Conformity Assessment Organizations assigned by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing on the basis of the relevant product in the form of issuing a G Conformity Certificate.
